Project Objectives

The primary objective of the collaboration in advising initiative is to promote collaboration and increased communication between advising units across campus to provide a more comprehensive advising experience for our students.  The processes and mechanisms through which academic advising and academic support units will collaborate and partner will be achieved through the following action steps:

  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for academic advising units within the colleges and departments
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for academic support units
  • Identify the areas of intersection between the academic advising units and academic support units
  • Agree upon tools, resources, or support that are needed to facilitate collaboration in advising and promote communication between advising units
  • Propose policy recommendations necessary to support implementation of collaborative advising practices and clearer communication practices
  • Enhance the Undergraduate Advising Resource Center (UARC) by identifying essential components of:
    • a centralized new advisor orientation program
    • a comprehensive online advising resource guide with search capabilities for students and advisors
