Project Objectives

The purpose of the Commuter Student Services and Engagement project is to:

  • Assess the first and second year commuter students by survey and focus groups to determine what the commuter student experience is for students at UIC, what issues commuter students face, and determine what can faculty and staff do to support their success as they matriculate throughout their time at UIC.
  • Educate faculty and staff on the experiences of our commuter students, what it means to be an urban commuter campus and how we should adjust our services to support our student needs.
  • Redefining the current programming/services of the CSRC to best meet needs of UIC students including transitional programs such as the Commuter Assistant program.
  • Evaluate the current uses of the CSRC facility to ensure it meets the needs and finds ways to increase and expand space based off identified needs and determine as well recommend other spaces on campus to meet the needs of commuter students.
