Project Objectives

Orientation is mandatory for all incoming first year students. Research at UIC has shown that students who participate in Orientation in July or August (late-attenders) or do not participate in Orientation at all (non-attenders) are retained and graduate at a lower rate than their peers.  Orientation attendance, therefore, can serve as a non-academic “early alert.” The goal of this project is to propose interventions, in collaboration with campus partners and colleges, to support the late- and never-attenders so they will be successful at UIC.
